This is a race that almost didn't happen. I was sick all week and things just kept getting worse. Achy, tired, cough.. all the signs of a bad cold. When the alarm went off, I seriously contemplated skipping the race. I felt horrible. But thanks to my husbands reverse psychology, I got up and got ready. I really didn't expect much from myself because it was the sickest I've felt in a long time. I'd be happy if I could just finish the race. I LOVE half marathons and I especially LOVED this race. The course was beautiful, it was very well organized and overall it ended up being a great day! My only complaint is that the course was long. I had it at 13.4 miles. Not to say it wasn't hard. Because it was! Especially around the 6 mile mark. I felt sick, my legs were tired and overall I had pretty much no energy. Thankfully I had a gu with me. Drank that and made it over the hump. Once I hit the 7 mark, the countdown began! Thankfully the miles really seemed to fly by during this race. All except for the last 2 miles. I tried to push my pace harder to finish the race but there was nothing in the tank. Those last two miles just wouldn't end. When I finally saw the finish line I got very emotional. I'm not sure if it was because I was sick, but when I finished and saw my parents and my husband I almost started crying hysterically. Tears of joy for sure. It was definitely emotional to finish. So, Nike+ had my time at 2:05, but my official time was 2:08. That is a pretty big difference. I started Nike+ just as I crossed the starting line, so I don't think it was the app. All in all, a great day! Cut my official time by over 5 minutes (9 minutes unofficial). I was right where I wanted to be for my splits. Every split was within the 9:30-9:39 range (overall was outside of that range but due to the extra .3 miles). Overall, very pleased! I've been recovering since the race though. My body feels great except for my pesky IT band. I'd rather be conservative and rest it another day than push and cause a more serious injury. I'm really looking forward to getting out there and running. My next goal is under 2 hours. I'll be focusing on strength through lots of heavy lifting at the gym. I'll also be adding in the bikini body guide workout again. I'll also be working on speed. My training did not include enough speed training. I know if I can follow through and focus on strength and speed, I'll have no problem hitting my goal. I'm not sure when my next half will be, but I'm ready to destroy my time! xoxo, Wilk
